I was not a confident person before I came to Australia. I chose to stay at PLC Armidale because I like the quiet environment. There aren’t as many students in one class as there are in Sydney, so teachers are able to look after each student better. I also feel that people here are more welcoming than in the city. My teachers and classmates here have helped and encouraged me so much that now I know I have the opportunity to achieve anything if I work hard at it.

We are really thrilled to have the students from Pathways join us. Their level of English 12 months ago would not have enabled them to study at our school, but now, in these early weeks of their new year, they are really flourishing. Let's think for a moment about the differences between the students who come and try to apply to PLC Sydney directly and those who come through the Pathways program. Those who come directly don't really have a cultural understanding of Australia, so they need to spend some time getting to know us and the Australian environment. Those who come from PLC Pathways already have all of that under their belts. They're able to communicate and make friends with Australian students, and they can connect straight into our classes, so they don't waste any time before beginning to learn from the academic programs that are so important to us here.

We (at Kincoppal-Rose Bay) are thrilled with PLC Pathways. The girls who come to us settle into boarding very quickly and are keen to be involved in all aspects of school life. This is because they have been at PLC and understand how schools in Australia work and they have had so many experiences at PLC that benefit them. They get involved quickly with sport and music and this helps them build friendships. In boarding they can relate well to students from many different backgrounds as well as staff and quickly adapt to the expectations of living in a boarding school. They have also had intensive English and with the aim of transitioning to a school like ours, they are very motivated to do well in these classes. This makes integration in the Australian classroom easier, and they seek assistance more readily. The girls who undertake this programme and want to continue at Kincoppal-Rose Bay are an asset to our school.
