Boarding at PLC

A home away from home from Year 5 to Year 12

Our approach to boarding at PLC Armidale is one that recognises the importance of a strong community and a sisterhood amongst the girls. Our boarding families trust us with more than just their daughters’ educations; they trust us with their care as well as moments of sharing culture, history and connection that broaden their horizons and deepen their character. Moments that make the PLC girl.

Moments of family

We know the value of family, not just to our College as a whole, but particularly to our Boarding community. When you send your daughter to board at PLC Armidale, your family is welcomed into ours. Our Boarder’s Christmas Party and the Father Daughter Dinner facilitate moments of connection that strengthen families. Our Boarder Liaison parents also organise other social events throughout the year to bring boarding families together.

Moments of connection

Communication is important in any family, we keep our boarding families up to date with regular emails and phone calls, as well as our fortnightly Lion’s Roar newsletter. We also recognise the importance of agency and flexibility in a positive boarding experience. Our student engagement platform, Orah, allows students and their families to manage their recreation, sporting and social schedule outside of school hours, giving parents peace of mind that their daughters are making the most of every moment.

Every moment – on your terms

Every family is different, and we know that situations change. That’s why we offer a range of flexible boarding options to allow families to tailor a boarding experience that suits them. We offer full time, weekly, part time and casual boarding options, as well as accommodation for parents while visiting.

Boarding facilities

We understand how important a role a girl’s environment plays in facilitating the moments that shape her. Our three Boarding Houses – Austin, Hilton and Todd McBean – are welcoming, peaceful and comfortable. Boarders take great pride in their Houses and are encouraged to treat them as their own homes.

A space to call their own

Every one of our Boarders from Year 5 to Year 10 has their own private individual bedroom and study space within a dormitory of six students. Year 11 students share a bedroom for two, encouraging healthy social and study routines and strengthening bonds as their responsibilities increase approaching their final year. Having developed strong study skills, our Year 12 girls again enjoy the independence of single-room accommodation, with two large study desks.

A space to come together

Our spacious, comfortable common rooms facilitate moments of social connection. Boarders share cooking skills and recipes together in modern kitchens, unwind with recreational activities including air hockey, foosball and boardgames, and catch a movie together in the theatre rooms.

A space to move

Physical activity and creativity are integral to a healthy lifestyle, and our sporting and music facilities encourage boarders to develop good habits. Music practice rooms, tennis courts, bicycle tracks, athletics facilities and a gymnasium are available to all our boarders. Our spacious grounds and gardens encourage girls to get outside, and our boarding team supervise visits to the Armidale Town Centre for shopping and community activities.

Health

Our Health Centre is central to the College. The Centre is managed by our Nursing Sister who attends to any medical needs on site and transports our girls to off-site medical appointments.
